On Sunday, June 27, 2010 around 0500hrs Foxborough Fire & Rescue was notified of a motor vehicle accident on Rt95 South at Rt495. Mansfield Fire also responded. While en route the department was notified the accident involved a tanker carrying jet fuel that was actively leaking. Rescue 3 and Engine 22 arrived to find a 11,000 gallon tanker full of jet fuel on its side rapidly leaking its load. The rescue crew quickly attended to the driver and transported him to Rhode Island Trauma center due to the nature of the accident. The shift Captain quickly ordered a full recall for manpower and a Tier I HAZ-MAT response. The incident would quickly grow to a 3rd alarm assignment and a Tier III HAZ-MAT response. The crews worked aggressively spreading foam blankets with the help of T.F. Green Airport Crash Rescue Fire Department to reduce the risk of fire in the hot temperature. The incident was safely stabilized over the course of 12 hours and extensive clean up would have to take place through the Department of Environmental Protection for the over 10,000 gallons of jet fuel that leaked into the ground.
